How to Look Up Martin County Civil Court Records
Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) is the main system for searching civil court records in Martin County. It is free, open 24 hours a day, and covers all Minnesota district courts. You can search by name of a party, business name, attorney name, or case number. The results show a list of cases with basic information and links to public documents. Go to publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us to start a search.
Documents in MCRO are available based on when they were filed. For civil cases filed on or after July 1, 2015, most public documents are available to download at no charge. For the period between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2015, the system has judgments, orders, and court-generated notices. Records from before 2005 are rarely available through MCRO. Those need to be requested directly from the courthouse.
The judgment search tool in MCRO lets you look up money judgments by debtor name. This is useful if you want to know whether a civil judgment has been entered against someone and whether it has been satisfied. This search is separate from the general case search and focuses specifically on docketed judgments.
Note: MCRO goes offline for system maintenance on Sundays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., so if you need to search on a weekend, plan around that window.

Martin County District Court hears a range of civil case types. General civil actions cover the broadest category, including contract disputes, tort claims, property disputes, and claims for money damages. The procedures for these cases follow Minnesota Statutes Chapter 540 and the Minnesota Rules of Civil Procedure. These are the rules that govern how civil cases are started, managed, and resolved in all Minnesota district courts.
Conciliation court is the small claims division. It handles disputes of $20,000 or less and is designed for people who do not have attorneys. The rules are simpler than regular civil court, and hearings tend to move faster. You can use conciliation court to collect a debt, recover security deposits, or resolve disputes over property damage. The Minnesota Judicial Branch explains the process at mncourts.gov.
The court also handles eviction actions, harassment restraining orders, and other civil proceedings. Each of these case types has different access rules. Most general civil records are public. Some records, including civil commitment cases and sealed files, are not.
